Kaomoji: Japanese Emoticons Copy And Paste

history

The emojis should originally go back to Shigetaka Kurita, who worked for DoCoMo in the “I-mode project” in the late 1990s. Today’s emojis are large, have more details and color, but at that time the first emoticons were monochrome and only 12x12 pixels in size. Because of this, they were not bound by copyright law, which in turn enabled other Japanese telephone companies to make their own devices available for emoji, which led to a rapid spread in the market.

Kaomoji: Japanese emoticons

Kaomoji is a very popular Japanese style emoticon made up of Japanese symbols and punctuation. The Japanese emoticons are used to convey feelings and states when writing and communicating online. The word Kaomoji is used synonymously with Japanese emoticons. The concept is based on the combination of two Kanji words, “kao” (顔= face) and “moji” (文字= character).

Japanese emoticons are really very emotional and have now spread all over the world.

The Japanese think that the eyes are the mirror to the soul, which is also the case in other cultures. Therefore, unlike Western emoticons, they focus on the eyes. In addition, kaomoji are so popular because you can read them from the side.

Many Japanese are good at drawing because Japanese is a language made up of pictures. Manga and anime are good examples of how illustrators are able to create a range of emotions through simple lines.

With the dawn of the internet and instant messaging, the lack of face-to-face communication created difficulties. Kaomoji came about through manga and anime fans who wanted to clear up these misunderstandings.

Emojis are very diverse, some internet sources list around 10,000, but there are many more. This diversity can be explained by two aspects:

1. unlike the Latin alphabet, which is characterized by individual characters, the Japanese script requires many more characters

2. Kaomoji can express not only individual emotions, but also complex actions, things and even stories

They can be broken down into categories based on emotional components of form, action, and object. These can also be given special figures for additional accents.

Positive emotions

joy

If you want to emphasize happy emoticons, use high-fitting eyes. Mouths are important too. Japanese girls often use w (omega) for mouths because they think these kaomoji look cute, like saying kawaii. Japanese also love to add various effects like stars, tears of joy for better understanding.

love

Love and kissing Japanese emoticons are often used with the ♡ (heart symbol).

You can also choose from a selection of characters “chu” for a kiss, which in Japanese imitates the sound of a kiss. Other interesting love emoticons also combine characters like “*” or “o”, which shows flushed cheeks. These emoticons try to hide their faces from shame. You can also use figures with symbols that indicate lips, which illustrate the need for a hug or a kiss. Japanese girls make fun of it and say these kaomojis look like perverts.

embarrassment

The following symbols can be used to show embarrassment: Figures that have droplets of sweat on their faces or those that are blushing (*, o). In addition, you can try to make the emoticons look as if they were hiding your face with your hands.

sympathy

The expression of sympathy or compassion requires two Japanese emoticons: one is disappointed or upset about something and the other will calm the first. One can use kaomoji from the “grief” category. A basic element for the second is the “calming hand” (ノ",ノ’orヾ) or" the shoulder for help “.

Japanese emoticons for negative sensations

dissatisfaction

This feeling can easily be represented by facial expressions. You can just use> <or other unhappy looking Japanese emoticons. This can also be expressed by writing the eyes as lines with a specific mouth. This is often used in anime and manga as well.

Anger

The secret of angry and malicious emoticons is in their eyes. Usually ´ or `is used. But you have to pay attention to the order, instead the emoticon becomes friendly (see: `´ - evil eyes, ´` - friendly eyes). In addition, you can add effects to reinforce such asメor ╬; and凸(finger) and ψ (claw) as arm.

surprise

For shocking and surprised emoticons, open mouths (o 〇 ,ロ), big eyes and raised hands are needed. You can also add other signs that suggest confusion. In contrast to the large mouths, large eyes can also be drawn in with small ones.
